Education
Learning and Unlearning
Why is Indigenous / First Nations / American Indian / Native American subject matter important to education? Well, for starters, a wealth of highly applicable and globally useful knowledge and wisdom can be gleaned from the in-depth study and understanding of Native cultural and historical viewpoints and perspectives. Provided the teaching is untainted by ever present pervasive American propaganda. Authentic Native sources are of course, always the best purveyors of accurate information. And yet, non-Native sources can also provide valuable input, so long as they are unbiased. A deeper understanding of the incredible ingenuity, expansive knowledge and invaluable wisdom found in historical and contemporary First Nations cultures can impart a perspective not often considered in today's world, and can open minds to a worldview which may contain the keys to everything from the reversal of climate change to the liberation of the human spirit. Why is Indigenous subject matter important? Because the world we leave for our next generations may be hanging in the balance.
